A Green Lantern Lantern trailer that doesn't suck

I was the first to admit the trailer we got last year was pretty bad, but this new one actually gives me some hope..even though I'm still not 100% sold on Ryan Reynolds as Hal.
Pretty cool they got Geoffrey Rush to voice Tomar Re.

That was much better than the last trailer.

What we saw was a lot of GL on that planet (yeah you can tell I dont read the comic lol) The footage we saw last time was on Earth mainly and Reynolds acting sucked in that as did Blake Lively's

My biggest concern is when the action takes place on Earth because the stuff in Space looks outstanding!!

TBH I don't know what to expect from any of the comic book films this year. Yeah thor looks good but again it has been mainly the action scenes we have seen. X-men i have no hope for (McTaggart being an american and the selection for first class is off putting enough)

Captain America will most likely be a giant camp fest...so yeah call me a scynic

Yeah I figure the "talky" parts are gonna bring the film down big time.

And I've always been nervous about Blake Lively being cast. She plays Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan's love interest who eventually becomes Star Sapphire.

And the Lantern world is called OA, Mr. Posh

My verdict: It's an "in the middle" vote for me.

Suprisingly there's a lot of really good stuff, but of course a handful of bad.

Ryan Reynolds did a pretty good job. Basically it's him being himself.
Lively wasn't bad, but a more experienced actress (Mila Kunis) would've added more personality to a character that needs some.

The best parts about the film: ANYTHING on Oa! Sinestro, Kilowog & Tomar Re are done almost perfectly, but unfortunately their screen time is much too small. I wanted to see a LOT more of them. Especially the training scenes.
Most of the other characters (all the aliens in the toy line) are "blink and you'll miss 'em", and get no introduction at all.
Oh and I LOVED Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller. If WB is smart they'll make her the DC Nick Fury & add her to the Superman film in some way.

The CG was fantastic, but I felt it was way overused. They did an excellent makeup job on Sinestro & Hector, the Guardians should've been done up the same way instead of resorting to digital.

And I will say this, as a comic book based film they were WAY more faithful to the material than any of the X-Men movies!
It's almost a shot-by-shot adaptation of "Secret Origin". Smart move, since I remember reading it and hoping that's what they would shoot for in the film version.

There wasn't anything after the credits, but something pretty cool in the middle (after the end titles).

Overall I say a solid 3 out of 5. I hope there is a sequel where they bring in Guy Gardner, John Stewart, Jade & maybe even introduce the Sapphires, but honestly I'm really wanting someone with a little more geek cred to direct this time.

I'll take average for this The reviews have been middle road too. I had a feeling the Space scenes were gonna be short. Shame

I just hope the genuine GL fans get something out of this. As for me? I'll wait for the DVD


On a side note, I finally saw Tron 2, not as bad as I thought it would be (loved the CG) but it was a little bit dull and pretentious. And the dude they got to play Son of Flynn was so fucking wooden

Also saw Hangover 2. Pile of Shit!! Comedies shouldn't get sequels it rarely works!!

There were some parts of Hangover 2 where I laughed, but overall I got bored.
Just too much like the first one.


So far the best film I've seen this year is Super 8. It's a fun throwback film, as long as you can ignore JJ's lens flare overkill.
Then there's Attack the Block, which FINALLY gets a release date over here (late July, I think).

And I hate to admit it, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes is beginning to look promising.

Just wathced GL:Emerald Knights

Fucking awesome, especially for newcomers like me.

Attack the Block is brilliant. For me the best film this year is amazingly X-men First class i was so happy with this film I saw it twice, and I never see a film twice in the cinemas since return of the king


Rise doesn't look too bad, i wonder if there will be a Mark Walberg cameo at the end of the film?

Emerald knights needed to be longer & have more characters spotlighted.

There should be trees in RotA that's kind of like having a Mark Walhberg cameo

Can't wait for the G4 marvel stuff, especially X-men, Iron Man and Blade
