So anyone seen it?
We saw it this afternoon. I have to say I liked it a lot better than I thought I would.
It's not 100% faithful to either the cartoon or the comics, but a lot of the things that make GI Joe as cool as hell for us as kids, and what we still love as adults is are all there...underwater bases, flying gliders, rocket snowmobiles, hi-tech jet fighters...yep you get all that & more! So it's basically a big ass live action cartoon with lots of cool shit.
Sure some of the shit they were flinging at us didn't make any sense at all (jabbing huge needles in a guys brain to get his last memory?? WTF?), and there wasn't much serious acting. Sienna Miller looked damn hot, but this Channing Tatum dude...mofo had the same damn blank expression for the whole thing. Somehow I get the feeling he might be Dolph Lundgren's love child.
Meanwhile Chris Eccleston just acted like an evil Dr. Who and Marlon Wayans was basically there trying his hardest to be Will Smith...and not very well. Not at all.
But hey the action was pretty damn cool with some nifty special effects and crazy ass action shots and a couple of pretty intense kills for a PG-13 movie, and at least it was fun without being a total juvenile insult like Transformers 2 was.
I recommend seeing it. It's fun.
Personally, I'm hoping this does well so maybe we get a sequel with more supporting characters. Quick Kick ftw!
So now you know, and knowing is half the battle
