Before Watchmen

My thoughts, I'm torn on this. Sure, it's a bunch of great creators doing what could be great books but wouldn't something more original from them be better w/out touching the original?
I mean do you really want to get Jack White, The Edge, Leonard Cohen, Brian Wilson & John Fogerty in a room...then make them do nothing but Beatles covers?

I'm not sure if i'm going to check it out or not yet. Watchmen was damn near perfect the way it was. Adding more to it could lessen the impact of the book.
Seeing names like Cook & that JG Jones cover really has me interested, though.
But again I know I'd only be buying into what this really is, at the root...another cheap money grab by the despicable Dan DiDio/Jim Lee duo where hype/controversy trumps creativity/originality.

Harry Enfield is best placed to express my distaste on the matter.

If Alan Moore was to write it then I'd be all for it, as he isn't it should be left as it is.

Watchmen tells us all we need to know of the characters back stories anyway.
