Transformers: Revenge of the Fandom

I swore to myself I would boycott it, since I totally disliked pretty much everything about the first movie, but too many of my friends wanted to get together & see it on IMAX for me to bail on them, so I'm seeing it Wednesday night.

I'm not holding out any hope, though. And the early reviews seem to confirm my worst fears. It's basically like the first one only bigger, louder, and dumber.
*sigh* how could someone take a property so ready made for a delightful summer movie franchise like the Transformers and fuck it up so royally by making the plot SO ridiculous and hire the MOST annoying people on the planet as your stars??

One good thing is that Bay has already said he will not be doing the third movie.
So hopefully Spielberg gets his shit together and finds a halfway decent director, or better yet does it himself.
Although with my luck he'll wind up giving it to McG or the Rat-man.

I saw an interview with Bay the other day. In it they asked about what he thought about people who say he ruined their childhood and his reply was something along the lines of the cartoon being a bit rubbish and the animation being poor. The tact of the man was pretty staggering and annoyed me quite a bit. I dunno about childhood's being ruined, for me the cartoons and the toys are unchanged and they still hold the magic they always did. All he did was a make a modern film that is the equivalent of cinematic marmite.

Killing Shia Labouf would make it more interesting

Hated the first one, the only redeeming feature was Peter Cullen.

1. okay, so Decepticons use robots disguised as hot girls...Terminator anyone?

2. so they got Frank Welker to do Soundwave, but no synthesizer enhancement so he basically sounded like Dr. Claw from Instpector Gadget

3. Jetfire is a cockney old fart with a mechanical beard & cane? Nice, reaal nice

4. Skids & Mudflap were a complete joke. And not in the good way, either.
Jive talkin? Gold buck teeth? Big ears? Yeah, nice. Totally worse than Jar Jar.
And yet these two bad stereotypes are the ones sent to protect Shia? Like screw Ratchet, fuck Ironhide, let's send the silly ghetto Autobots!

5. Correct me if I'm wrong but they totally screwed up when they showed Mix Master getting killed by Jetfire while he was supposed to be part of Devastator on top of the pyramid.
And what happened with Mike Patton doing his voice? One grunt was all I heard!

6. Pssh, some threat The Fallen turned out to be. Couldn't anybody have taken the Matrix & shoved it into the pyramid? And the fight w/Optimus was, what, 3 seconds at the most?

7. Oh and Shia's parents get more screen action than Tyrese and the other dude from the first movie. Go figure.

8. Why in the FUCK did that stupid ass roommate have to tag along the WHOLE GOD DAMN MOVIE???

The only thing that would've been remotely interesting was if Shia had really died and the Matrix would've turned him into Rodimus Prime. I thought that was really gonna happen when one of the Primes said he had to "earn his destiny."

Well I survived the night! You guys seen that Gamefly commercial where the couple is holding each other & crying because they bought a bad game? Well that's pretty much how I felt last night.
Yeah I was talking to my friends about it all day. It's really the first time we felt bad that a movie had so much bad language & potty humor.

I mean, it's a movie for kids with toys for kids, the marijuana brownie joke & the cussing just didn't need to be there. I mean, Transformers were always meant to teach kids right from wrong, good from bad, and what it means to be brave.
Bay just didn't freakin' get it and made it for the worst demographic possible. Preteen street thugs.

Writers often resort to toilet humour when they can't think of anything funny to say. I would find it funny but then I live in Essex. Does it have any references to G1 or anything Gollum? I like when writers and directors, give the fans a nod in the films, its sign of respect and its always appreciated. Iron Man had a few of those.

I think I'm gonna see it anyway, I enjoyed the first one.

And speaking of other movies, I'd love to drive up to Dallas to see the Watchmen Director's Cut on the theater screen, since that's the only place near me that's showing it, but it's either the weekend of - or before - SDCC.
I'm still debating on wether to buy this DVD or wait 'til December when the Ultimate version that includes The Black Freighter comes out.

I think about 30 minutes have been added.

I know for sure they've added all the Hollis Mason scenes that were cut from the theatrical version, also there's supposedly more prison footage and probably more of the building fire rescue, where they actually show them serving coffee.
And maybe the newsstand footage with the two Bernies will be put back in without the Black Frieghter animation.
